Officials in Pennsylvania are reporting that 15 more people have died from “flu-related causes.” This now brings Pennsylvania’s total count to 207, which includes six children.
This past week, several health data providers submitted information to the Pennsylvania Department of Health indicating that flu cases were now on the rise due to the new influenza B strain. Influenza A was the prior strain that health officials claim wreaked havoc all over the globe.
CDC Spokesperson, Kristin Nordlund, offered the following statement.
“We know that illness associated with influenza B can be just as severe as illness associated with influenza A,” Nordlund said. “We also know that influenza B tends to be more severe for younger children.”
Of course, Nordlund’s solution, according to Weather.com, was for people to run out and get a flu shot.
“As long as flu is spreading, vaccinations should continue,” she said. It’s important to know that it takes about two weeks for protection to set in.”
The flu shot has been criticized all year for being ineffective and potentially contributing to the ongoing “flu-crisis” the media has seemingly reported on daily. The CDC has revised its prior assessment of the flu shot being a failure to the flu shot being a not so bad failure. I suppose they at least do a good job keeping us on our toes.
