Officials in the Philippines are now warning that the use of the Dengue Vaccine, made by Sanofi Pasteur, could cause dengue fever outbreaks. They’ve suspended the use of the vaccine, however, are acknowledging that over 700,000 school children already received it. They claim they ceased use of the vaccine following warnings from Sanofi Pasteur.
The Health Department has suspended its dengue immunization program for public school students due to the vaccine’s possible health risks to people without prior infection. At least one senator now wants an investigation into the controversy.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III discloses more than 700,000 Filipino gradeschoolers already received the first dose of the dengue vaccine. But he assures the public the DOH will closely monitor their situations in the next 5 years.
