Scientists Now Say Our Brains Know When We Are Dead…And So Do We.

Just in time for Halloween. Scientists are now trying to discover what happens after you die. Clearly, for many, this falls into a religious belief. For others, well, they just think the world goes blank. Whatever the case, scientists are now saying that the brain is still a functioning organ beyond the point of death and that news translates into people knowing they are dead.

Researchers from New York University’s Langone School of Medicine studied heart attack patients who had their hearts stop for periods of time.

“Technically speaking, that’s how you get the time of death — it’s all based on the moment when the heart stops,” NYU’s Dr. Sam Parnia told Live Science.

“They’ll describe watching doctors and nurses working; they’ll describe having awareness of full conversations, of visual things that were going on, that would otherwise not be known to them,” he explained. According to Parnia, these recollections were then verified by medical and nursing staff who were present at the time and were stunned to hear that their patients, who were technically dead, could remember all those details.

“We’re trying to understand the exact features that people experience when they go through death, because we understand that this is going to reflect the universal experience we’re all going to have when we die,” Parnia added.

Feeling uneasy? Not to worry, it seems this is a relatively shallow measure of what may or may not happen beyond the white lights. I’m not sure I’d do much more than taking this with a grain of salt. My only hope is that no matter what the circumstances, hopefully, I’ve at least forgotten that I have credit card debt by this point.
