Have you ever been to Kentucky? I have, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I traveled throughout the incredibly beautiful thoroughbred farms and the spectacular beauty of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. This trip was several years ago, and if you had told me at that time that Kentucky would have been infiltrated by leftist loony Marxists, I would have thought you were crazy.
But they have been infiltrated, and like so many other Marxist infiltrations, the leftist loons have targeted Kentucky schools. Their latest feat is convincing kids that they are cats. Yep, that’s right. The high school students call themselves furries because they identify as cats. As such, they dress and act like cats while attending school.
This goes back to at least 2021, where I found a local WLKY story in which reporters interviewed a concerned grandmother with two grandkids at the school. At that time, the Meade County School District Superintendent said he was addressing the issue, which had many normal students on edge. No wonder many were upset and concerned, given that these wanna be cat students hiss at others sometimes even scratch a person when they don’t like something that person is doing. The grandmother said it got really bad at the beginning of the 2021 school year.
While school officials assured parents the situation was under control, the administration could not stop the social media postings of photos of these whack jobs dressed up in cat costumes and exhibiting cat-like behavior.
Like Kentucky, Iowa is considered by most to be a rural conservative state, but the superintendent of Carroll School District faced similar woes in 2022 when it was reported that restrooms had litter boxes in school restrooms to serve students who identify as cats. The superintendent emphatically denied this, but the rumors got so bad that he had to send a letter home to parents. “Iowa State Education Association Director Mary Jane Cobb said the litter box rumors are a mean-spirited right-wing attempt to mock LGBTQ+ restroom equality.” It is interesting how these school boards want to make sure that the one student who identifies as a cat is secure in its kitty safe space, while the concerns of all other students and parents go unnoticed. Similar school districts in Michigan and other states had the same issues, where parents quickly became extremely vocal at school board meetings and other public forums.
Harmless Play or Something Worse?
Advocates say that being a ‘furry’ is harmless because it just involves a human who is role playing and dreaming about having animal attributes. What’s wrong with having a “fursona” (an alternate persona) and interacting and role playing with other fursonas? Opponents to the furry movement say that the idea of a fursona “blurs the line between real life and a created reality”, and therefore does not benefit stability and mental health. Yes, young people like to experiment — they’re finding out who they are. However, the alternative reality can quickly become an obsession so consuming that the person disengages from everyday life and realities. As an example, a Japanese man spent $15,000 on costumes and surgery to transform into the collie dog he now identifies as.
Mental health experts warn that it can encourage vulnerable young people to take risks they normally would not. While the fursona community says there is no sexually motivated intention, groups like Safer Schools UK points out several glaring issues. First, fursona role playing is done in mostly online communities, and there are real dangers with interacting with people over the internet, such as convincing a minor to move to a more personal platform. Second, fursonas have a subjective age, so someone can claim to be younger or older than they are in real life. People with nefarious purposes have an excuse to not be entirely honest about their true identity. What could possibly go wrong? A lot. The bottom line is that the entire scenario is ripe for misuse by someone with a harmful sexual interest in children, much like the trannies’ movement to dress up in a suit of female anatomy (complete with pink pubic hair) and read to the vulnerablechildren during kindergarten story hour.
Normalization of Nefarious Activity
Are we becoming a more inclusive society, or are we normalizing mental illness? I heard a podcaster refer to it as “sexual schizophrenia” and with 72 additional genders now identified (other than male and female), I believe he is right.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Illnesses (DSM) is the gold standard for psychiatry. In the first two editions of the DSM, there was no mention of gender identity. In 1980’s DSM-III, transsexualism first appeared, and in 1990 the World Health Organization (WHO) created an official diagnosis in the ICD-10 coding that doctors use worldwide. In 1994, transsexualism became gender identity disorder in the DSM-IV, which some psychiatrists took issue with because they felt it was not a true disorder and instead made identity pathologic. Fast forward to 2013 and “gender identity disorder” became “gender dysphoria” in the DSM-5. Dysphoria equates to patient distress, significantly changing the focus and making it more acceptable, and more likely, for people to seek medical and surgical treatment.
It’s fair to say that gender identity disorder is itself a highly controversial diagnosis. As it relates to furries, gender identity disorder is the model for something called species identity disorder, which some furries have been proclaiming for over a decade. They say they are not role playing. Instead, they feel they are the animal in reality, but are stuck being human. And this is where the danger comes from — when a curious interest becomes an unhealthy obsession for other mentally ill people to potentially take advantage of.
Many health professionals describe the furry community as “a complex one, made up of many different identities and definitions of what it means to be a ‘Furry’.” What would you call it? Maybe the definition is simpler — mental illness anyone? And maybe by not recognizing these dangers, our society is putting our most vulnerable at risk.
