10 Vaccinated Kids Get Pertussis In North Carolina

Health officials in Carteret County, North Carolina are advising the public to be on the lookout for whooping cough.

The Carteret County Health Department says there are 10 confirmed cases in the region.They noted that the kids diagnosed with whooping cough were ages 9 to 14.

In total for the year, there have 79 cases in the county so far. Of the 10 recent diagnoses, all of the children were vaccinated.

“Every case we’ve had so far have been vaccinated, so you can’t take for granted that just because your child has been vaccinated for pertussis they don’t have the capability of contracting it.” Nursing Director, Kim Davis, told NBC’s North Carolina affiliate.
