A suburb of New York City plans to declare a measles state of emergency and ban unvaccinated minors from public places. The ban specifically targets kids not vaccinated with Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR).
Rockland County has a population of 300,000 and of those, 153 measles cases.
The ban is expected to affect mostly ultra-Orthodox communities in the county. The aggressive ban is likely to cause a backlash. The vaccination topic is as divisive as ever, this is sure to only add to that dire sentiment.
The county has already had one ban in place. Last year, unvaccinated, or “low vaccinated,” kids were banned from schools.
