Study Finds Over Half Of All Parents Don’t Trust Flu Shots

Researchers from the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital conducted a study on “parental attitudes towards the flu shot.” What they found, unsurprisingly, is that a whole lot of parents do not trust the flu shot.

The research used 700 adults in the United States. The findings revealed that over half of people with children under 18 years of age believe that the flu shot can give the flu.

The researchers in charge of the study were quick to assure us all that flu shots don’t cause the flu (because, of course, they did).

“The parts of the virus that are used in the vaccine are completely dead, so you cannot get the flu from the flu shot,” Jean Moorjani, coauthor of the study, said in a statement. “It takes time for your body to get strong and ready for flu season, which is why we recommend everybody get the shot as soon as they can. If you are infected with the flu shortly after getting your flu shot, your body may not be able to fight it off.”

Nearly 28 percent of the people do not trust the safety of the flu shot, some believing it can cause Autism.

“After extensive studies, we know that the flu vaccine is safe,” he said. “You cannot get autism from the flu vaccine. It is not a conspiracy for doctors to recommend the flu vaccine. Doctors recommend it because we know — based on science, research and facts — that it is the best way to protect yourself and your family against the flu.”

The CDC now recommends that all children over six months get a flu shot. The CDC is also finding out that many parents aren’t going to comply with such recommendations.
