U.C. Davis Children’s Hospital ER officials claim that a single child exposed 200 people to measles. The figure does not include the hospital staff.

The hospital claims that girl visited the hospital on March 17 with respiratory symptoms. Staff says that the original symptoms did not prompt anyone to consider measles. Two days later, the girl was diagnosed with measles and placed in isolation. However, hospital officials claim that 200 people were exposed during the two days she was in general population. Now they are warning everyone who visited that portion of the hospital that they’ve been exposed to measles. The hospital sent out a number of letters warning of the situation, according to Popular Science.

All major media outlets, including ABC News, have been quick to cover the story.

Dean A. Blumberg, the chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, stated the following:

“In an abundance of caution, we’ve notified the 200 or so patients who we know may have been in the vicinity, he said.
