A total of six children were seriously harmed after receiving the DTAP vaccine, three of those children died. DTAP, or diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine, is a mainstream vaccine given to children worldwide.
This particular tragedy happened in Loinga village, an area of Palamau, a district in Jharkhand. After receiving the DTAP doses, the children reportedly immediately began to vomit. On Saturday night, the children were all taken to Sadar Hospital where three of them were pronounced dead.
The tragic event sparked outrage which resulted in villagers protesting and even taking nurses hostage. Police were forced to perform rescue missions to work for the release of the nurses.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das claims that health officials are investigating the incident. He also announced that families will receive compensation.
